  38. GCC / Binutils
  39. ==============
  40. In order to generate Windows executables, gcc and as have to be (cross-)compiled
  41. under MinGW / MSYS (www.mingw.org). Starting from version 0.96 Beta 10, GCC4TI
  42. implements cross-compiling support in the *nix source distribution, so most
  43. Windows executables can be compiled under *nix.
  44. GCC4TI automatically patches gcc and as to make them support a number of
  45. TI-68k/AMS peculiarities, and TIGCC/GCC4TI capabilities, such as (but not
  46. limited to):
  47. * TI's calling convention;
  48. * TI's (SMAP II BCD) floating-point values and AMS-compatible calling
  49. convention;
  50. * add support for linker optimization (all-relocs mode, mergeable
  51. sections);
  52. * various minor bug fixes when dealing with MC68000 (instead of MC68020) code.
  53. The *nix compilation procedure works under MSYS, with a small modification:
  54. before running Install, type
  55. export C_INCLUDE_PATH=""
  56. (which is necessary if you have GTK+ development packages installed, so
  57. as not to let cc1.exe depend on iconv.dll.)
  58. in the MSYS command prompt.
  59. NOTE1: the GCC4TI scripts can handle paths containing spaces, but the `configure`
  60. in binutils 2.16.1 and gcc 4.1.2 cannot. Don't use spaces either in the path
  61. where you decompress the GCC4TI source distribution or in the target PATH ($TIGCC).
  62. NOTE2: when building in MSYS running under Windows XP, we saw NTVDM errors about
  63. forbidden instructions. As far as we could see, these errors can be safely ignored.
  64. We hope these instructions were clear enough, although they do not really
  65. fall into the category of how to recompile GCC4TI. In fact, the possibilities
  66. might be much greater in future releases of GCC. We will be glad to assist
  67. you in any way.
  68. LD-TIGCC / TPRBUILDER / A68K / TI-68k Developer Utilities
  69. =========================================================
  70. All of them can be (cross-)compiled with MinGW / MSYS.
  71. TIGCC / TIGCC IDE
  72. =================
  73. IDE.exe and tigcc.exe have to be compiled with Borland Delphi 7 or later. To
  74. do this, make sure all files in the 'Search Path Items' folder are available
  75. in your search path. Then install all custom components from the 'Components'
  76. folder.
  77. To compile tigcc.exe
  78. --------------------
  79. Make sure the above conditions are true. Then open TIGCC.dpr in Delphi and
  80. compile it.
  81. To compile IDE.exe
  82. ------------------
  83. Make sure the above conditions are true. Then open IDE.dpr in Delphi and
  84. compile it.
  85. DOC
  86. ===
  87. First, modify the file HelpSystem.ini in the 'Programs' subfolder of the
  88. 'Doc' folder to reflect your actual folder names. It contains an example of
  89. configuration. It exists so that the 'Programs' folder can reside at any
  90. given place on the hard disk.
  91. Then, you need to call all 'Update...' programs once.
  92. UpdateInclude.exe and UpdateInfo.exe take one or more complete file name(s)
  93. as parameters. The actual names of the files are discarded, and the remaining
  94. folder name is the folder to be updated. If the first parameter is '/ALL' or
  95. no parameters are specified, all folders are updated, and in case of
  96. UpdateInclude.exe, a header file index is generated.
  97. UpdateKeywords.exe and UpdateIndex.exe do not take any parameters.
  98. To compile the documentation, download the HTML Help Workshop from
  99. http://msdn.microsoft.com. Then compile the project in the 'System\CHMFiles'
  100. folder.
  101. Tools to make editing help system files more convenient are also included in
  102. this distribution.
  103. A tools to create help system files from the original GNU Texinfo documents
  104. is included as well, but it might need a recompilation to work with future
  105. versions of the documentation. Anyway, the .texi files should be in the
  106. current directory, and you should specify one of them in the command line.
  107. The appropriate subfolders need to exist (e.g. gnuexts).
  108. If you need detailed information about the file formats, look at the
  109. Readme.txt file in the documentation folder.
  110. ARCHIVE
  111. =======
  112. Use tprbuilder or the TIGCC IDE to compile the archive, then copy tigcc.a
  113. into the lib folder.
  114. LAUNCHER (PSTARTER)
  115. ===================
  116. Use
  117. tigcc -c -Wa,--defsym,ttunpack=1,-l pstarter.s -o pstarter.o
  118. to compile the pstarter, then copy pstarter.o into the lib folder.
  119. SETUP
  120. =====
  121. The setup wizard and the distribution archives can be built by running
  122. makeall.bat in the 'setup' folder. The following external utilities (all
  123. Open Source and free of charge) are needed for that to work:
  124. * UPX: http://upx.sourceforge.net
  125. * NSIS: http://nsis.sourceforge.net
  126. * Info-ZIP or compatible: http://www.info-zip.org/pub/infozip/
  127. * ClamWin (for some virus checking): http://www.clamwin.com
  128. You'll also have to adjust the paths in the batch files and in tigcc.nsi
  129. properly for them to work on your system.
