  1. 1. When you see _Command?_ printed, enter one of the legal commands
  2. (nav, srs, lrs, pha, tor, she, dam, com, or xxx).
  3. 2. If you should type in an illegal command, you'll get a short list of
  4. the legal commands printed out.
  5. 3. Some commands require you to enter data (for example, the 'nav' command
  6. comes back with 'Course(1-9) ?'.) If you type in illegal data (like
  7. negative numbers), that command will be aborted.
  8. The galaxy is divided into an 8 X 8 quadrant grid, and each quadrant
  9. is further divided into an 8 x 8 sector grid.
  10. You will be assigned a starting point somewhere in the galaxy to begin
  11. a tour of duty as commander of the starship _Enterprise_; your mission:
  12. to seek out and destroy the fleet of Klingon warships which are menacing
  13. the United Federation of Planets.
  14. You have the following commands available to you as Captain of the Starship
  15. Enterprise:
  16. \nav\ Command = Warp Engine Control --
  17. Course is in a circular numerical vector 4 3 2
  18. arrangement as shown. Integer and real . . .
  19. values may be used. (Thus course 1.5 is ...
  20. half-way between 1 and 2. 5 ---*--- 1
  21. ...
  22. Values may approach 9.0, which itself is . . .
  23. equivalent to 1.0. 6 7 8
  24. One warp factor is the size of one quadrant. COURSE
  25. Therefore, to get from quadrant 6,5 to 5,5
  26. you would use course 3, warp factor 1.
  27. \srs\ Command = Short Range Sensor Scan
  28. Shows you a scan of your present quadrant.
  29. Symbology on your sensor screen is as follows:
  30. <*> = Your starship's position
  31. +K+ = Klingon battlecruiser
  32. >!< = Federation starbase (Refuel/Repair/Re-Arm here)
  33. * = Star
  34. A condensed 'Status Report' will also be presented.
  35. \lrs\ Command = Long Range Sensor Scan
  36. Shows conditions in space for one quadrant on each side of the Enterprise
  37. (which is in the middle of the scan). The scan is coded in the form \###\
  38. where the units digit is the number of stars, the tens digit is the number
  39. of starbases, and the hundreds digit is the number of Klingons.
  40. Example - 207 = 2 Klingons, No Starbases, & 7 stars.
  41. \pha\ Command = Phaser Control.
  42. Allows you to destroy the Klingon Battle Cruisers by zapping them with
  43. suitably large units of energy to deplete their shield power. (Remember,
  44. Klingons have phasers, too!)
  45. \tor\ Command = Photon Torpedo Control
  46. Torpedo course is the same as used in warp engine control. If you hit
  47. the Klingon vessel, he is destroyed and cannot fire back at you. If you
  48. miss, you are subject to the phaser fire of all other Klingons in the
  49. quadrant.
  50. The Library-Computer (\com\ command) has an option to compute torpedo
  51. trajectory for you (option 2).
  52. \she\ Command = Shield Control
  53. Defines the number of energy units to be assigned to the shields. Energy
  54. is taken from total ship's energy. Note that the status display total
  55. energy includes shield energy.
  56. \dam\ Command = Damage Control report
  57. Gives the state of repair of all devices. Where a negative 'State of Repair'
  58. shows that the device is temporarily damaged.
  59. \com\ Command = Library-Computer
  60. The Library-Computer contains six options:
  61. Option 0 = Cumulative Galactic Record
  62. This option shows computer memory of the results of all previous
  63. short and long range sensor scans.
  64. Option 1 = Status Report
  65. This option shows the number of Klingons, stardates, and starbases
  66. remaining in the game.
  67. Option 2 = Photon Torpedo Data
  68. Which gives directions and distance from Enterprise to all Klingons
  69. in your quadrant.
  70. Option 3 = Starbase Nav Data
  71. This option gives direction and distance to any starbase in your
  72. quadrant.
  73. Option 4 = Direction/Distance Calculator
  74. This option allows you to enter coordinates for direction/distance
  75. calculations.
  76. Option 5 = Galactic /Region Name/ Map
  77. This option prints the names of the sixteen major galactic regions
  78. referred to in the game.
